There are two kinds of cat owners: those who eat alone, and those who have accepted that every meal comes with supervision.

It starts the same way every time. A human sits down with food and a cat suddenly appears out of nowhere. Nobody called them. Nobody offered them anything. Yet somehow they arrive at the exact moment the first bite is about to happen, ready to investigate.

Cats act like they're conducting official business. They inspect the plate, sniff the air, and stare so intensely that it feels like they're judging every food choice being made. Some cats keep things purrfessional and watch from a distance. Others decide the fastest way to gather information is to plant their face directly in the food.

Most cat owners know the look. It's the expression that says, "I see you're eating something. Interesting. And why exactly wasn't I included in this decision?"

What's funny is that many cats don't even want the food. They just want access to it. They need to know what's on the plate, whether it's worth their attention, and why their human seems so excited about it. Sometimes a quick sniff is enough to satisfy their curiosity. Of course, every cat owner knows there's one dangerous mistake: sharing a bite. The moment a cat discovers they enjoy a particular food, they never forget it. Suddenly every future meal featuring that item becomes a negotiation.

Cats may not cook, grocery shop, or set the table, but somehow they still believe they deserve a say in every meal. And judging by how often humans end up sharing their space, attention, and occasionally a tiny bite, it's hard to argue that the strategy isn't working.
